06/28/2017- The month of June was a busy safety month for the West Valley Cardinal Health Med DC. Throughout the month, they conducted several safety activities, including multiple emergency drills, trainings, and safety-related games.
Most employees would agree that the PPE race was the most entertaining. They broke the staff up into two teams. The teams then had to help dress their fellow employees in PPE (e.g., face shield, apron, booties, nitrile gloves) and respond to a pretend liquid spill. The first team to have every one of their teammates respond to the spill fully dressed in PPE was the winner.
Overall, it was great month. Employees not only gained some important information about safety both at work and at home, they had fun doing it.

04/12/2017- The 2017 Utah Manufacturers Association & Utah Mining Association Conference was a great event to attend. The first keynote speaker was Richard Massey with SnugZ. Richard shared a tragic, but real-life, incident that occurred here in Utah just a year ago. His main point was that safety can throw you a curve-ball and it’s important to be prepared for anything, even if the odds of an incident happening are low.
The second keynote speaker was Mercedes Ramirez Johnson. She spoke about her own story of being only one of four survivors in a devastating plane crash in Colombia. She emphasized the importance of living life to the fullest and being cognitively aware of what you’re doing at work. She mentioned that if the minds of the pilots flying her plane had been focused, they could have avoided getting off their route and crashing.
The conference had several breakout sessions as well. Some of the topics covered were Behavioral Safety, Amputations, Safety Training Techniques, and Workplace Incentive Programs to name a few. The Mining Conference provides a great opportunity to learn more from some excellent safety leaders in our community.
