Q: How do I report a vehicle containing improperly or unrestrained children?
A: You may report a vehicle one of three ways:
Q: What information do I need to provide when I report a vehicle?
A: You will need to provide the following information:
- Utah license plate number and vehicle description
- Date and time of observation
- Location of vehicle
- Detailed description of the situation (infant on passenger’s lap, kids wandering around, etc.)
Q: What happens when I report a vehicle to Buckle Up for Love?
A: All reports, whether submitted online, in the mail, or on the BUFL hotline, are received by the Home and Community Program Manager. The manager uses the Utah Criminal Justice Information System to input the license plate numbers and obtain the vehicle owner’s name and address. At the end of each week, the manager mails an educational packet to the individuals reported. This packet includes:
- A friendly letter about the Buckle Up for Love program
- A Buckle Up for Love 4-Steps brochure
- A Boost ‘Til 8 brochure
- AAP recommendation on car seats
- Tips on keeping kids in their seats
- A list of locations in Utah that perform car seat checks
- And more!
Q: Will I get anyone in trouble?
A: No. Law enforcement is not involved in any way, and driving records are not affected.
Q: Will anyone know if I reported them?
A: No. Reporting is completely anonymous.
Q: Can I report out of state drivers?
A: No. Buckle Up for Love is only valid in the state of Utah.
